UP Braces for Heavy Rain and Stormy Weather

After a brief spell of heat and humidity, Uttar Pradesh is expected to see a shift in weather starting Sunday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for 56 districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall over the next five days.

Rain Returns as Monsoon Activity Picks Up

High Humidity Gives Way to Incoming Showers

Saturday saw intense heat and sticky humidity across most of UP, largely due to a weakened low-pressure system that had previously passed through the state.

According to the IMD, that system pulled away moisture-laden winds, temporarily reducing rainfall activity.
However, the monsoon trough is now becoming active again. Starting Sunday, cloud cover and showers are expected to return, bringing much-needed relief though possibly with lightning and strong winds in some areas.

Heavy Rain Forecast in Western UP

Districts along the Uttarakhand border may see particularly strong rainfall. Areas on alert include:

* Saharanpur
* Shamli
* Muzaffarnagar
* Bijnor
* Moradabad
* Baghpat
* Meerut
* Amroha
* Rampur
* Bareilly

The IMD suggests that these areas may experience moderate to heavy showers, which could impact travel and daily activities.

Kanpur Sees Light Rain, Rising Humidity

In Kanpur, residents felt the pinch of humidity, though light rainfall was recorded.

The city logged 6 mm of rain by Saturday morning. Daytime temperatures climbed to 34.4°C, while the minimum stayed around 24.8°C.

Gorakhpur weather

Gorakhpur and neighboring areas in the Basti division didn’t get much relief. Despite clouds rolling in, rainfall remained elusive.

The night temperature in Gorakhpur rose to 28°C—2°C above normal making it an uncomfortable evening for many.

What’s Next for UP Weather?

The IMD projects that between July 21 and July 25, most of Uttar Pradesh will experience periods of rainfall ranging from light to moderate intensity, possibly heavier in some districts.

Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning are also likely.
While the rain may offer temporary relief from the oppressive heat, it could also disrupt outdoor plans, travel, and local transport.

Those in high-alert districts should take basic precautions and follow weather updates regularly.
