The National Highway Authority has recently announced an increase in toll fees on several major highways across the country. Which can directly affect passenger and business activities. This decision has been taken at a time when the demand for road transport is increasing in the country. And the government is trying to mobilize the necessary resources for the construction and maintenance of high-quality road infrastructure.
India needs huge investments to continuously improve and expand its road network. Additional resources are required to build new roads, flyovers, bridges and other structures. The government is trying to raise funds for these projects by increasing toll charges. Toll sources said that this will affect more than 10 lakh small and big vehicles that travel long distances on the same route through Lucknow, Nawabganj, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Rae Bareli every day.
The authority collects toll fee at Nawabganj on Kanpur Highway, Ahmedpur, Raunahi, Bara on Ayodhya Highway and Dakhina Sheikhpur on Raebareli Highway. There is also a lot of cost in maintaining and repairing the already existing roads. These roads are regularly maintained to ensure better road safety and passenger experience. Funds are required for this. Construction material, labor cost and other related expenses are increasing over time. It has been decided to increase the toll fee to cover these increasing costs.
Ordinary travelers may have to spend more money due to the increase in toll fee. Especially those travelers who regularly travel long distances. Such as people traveling between cities, they will have to face an increase in their travel costs. This increase can cause even more trouble for those who travel on a limited budget. The authority issued a circular in this regard on Friday and gave this information. Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia said that from the first day of the financial year 2025-26, vehicles will have to pay more toll. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll fee by five to ten rupees per trip.
