The electricity department has launched a massive raid campaign against electricity theft in various districts of Uttar Pradesh. During this, people have been caught red-handed stealing electricity illegally at many places. This has created panic among the departmental officials.

This strict action by the electricity department has created panic among those who steal electricity. The department has warned that such action will continue in the future as well. And no accused will be spared.In Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, officials of Power Corporation Limited started a special campaign against electricity thieves from March.
In this, along with catching electricity theft, people were also made aware to use legal connections.During the campaign that ran from March 1 to April 14, 367 households were found to be involved in illegal connections, while 241 people were given new connections.
The penalty imposed on 367 people was about Rs 1 crore.The electricity department also took major action in Sambhal district. During the raid at the residence of the Municipal Executive Officer, the officer was caught red handed consuming electricity directly from the pole despite the meter being disconnected.
In this case, the electricity department has taken action by registering a case of electricity theft. The result of the campaign was that a large number of people applied. Within one and a half months, 241 people were given new connections.
While the applications of more than 400 people are still pending, which will be completed in two-three days. Cases of installing shunts in meters were also caught. All these three cases were caught in Kareli itself.
Due to shunt the speed of the meter becomes very slow. For example if someone’s electricity bill is Rs. 1000 per month then after installing shunt it will come to Rs. 200 only.
In Uttar Pradesh, there was a stir due to the action
A campaign was also launched against electricity theft in Meerut and Rampur districts. 244 houses were raided in Meerut’s Lisadi Gate area. Electricity theft was detected at 19 places.
During the investigation of 440 connections in Rampur, cases of electricity theft were found at 65 places. Revenue of Rs 42 lakh was determined from this.The seven divisions of the city include Myohal, Bamrauli, Rambagh, Karailabagh, Kalyani Devi, Tagore Town and Naini.
The campaign was carried out at all places, but the maximum power theft was detected in Kareli of Karelabag division. SDO Rajveer Kataria detected 127 cases of power theft.
Out of these, 31 were cases of bypass.In Ghaziabad’s Modinagar area, the electricity department team along with the police force raided various places in Bhojpur village. During this, more than 254 places were searched. In which major electricity theft was caught at four places.
More than 20 accused were found using electricity despite their connections being cut. Apart from this, meters of 40 defaulters were removed and cases of illegal connection were found at many places.
A total revenue of Rs 11.10 lakh was collected. A report has been filed in the anti-theft police station against those involved in electricity theft and illegal connections.
