With an aim to reduce pollution and promote public transport in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has decided to start the service of double decker e-bus.
Prayagraj will become the second city in the state to implement this initiative where the double decker e-bus will run from March 2025. These buses have a seating arrangement of 65 and are air-conditioned. Due to which passengers will experience comfortable travel.
Prayagraj will be the second city of UP
It is proposed to operate double decker e-bus from Prayagraj to major cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Mirzapur, Vindhyachal and Banda. The lithium-ion battery of these buses is capable of covering a distance of up to 215 km on a single charge.
The fare for a 3×2 seater bus from Prayagraj to Lucknow has been fixed at ₹357 and for a 2×2 seater bus at ₹416.After the state capital Lucknow, Prayagraj will be the second city in the state where double-decker e-buses will be operated.
Next month, the citizens will be able to see double-decker e-buses running on the roads of Prayagraj. Preparations for this have begun. The route of the double decker e-bus has also been decided. There are plans to run these buses on two routes.
However, roadways officials say that it is almost certain that double decker buses will run on these two routes. Discussions are also going on about one or two more routes. Everything will be clear by next week.It is certain that the operation of double decker e-bus can be started any day next month.
In this regard, Ravindra Verma, service manager of UP Roadways Prayagraj region, says that the charging station is being prepared. In such a situation, the operation of double decker e-bus is expected to start next month.
A charging station for double decker e-bus is being set up at the Prayagraj depot workshop in Rajapur. Apart from this, a digital control room is also being built in Rajapur to solve the problems of passengers. Where passengers can register their complaints and suggestions.
Double decker e-bus will run from next month
The operation of these electric double decker buses will not only increase passenger facilities but will also reduce environmental pollution because these buses will run on electricity instead of petrol or diesel.
This initiative will give a new dimension to the public transport system in Prayagraj and better and cheaper travel services will be available to the passengers. There is not a single rail under bridge on both these routes.
It is being told that the double-decker e-bus running from the airport will reach the Civil Lines bus station via Jhalwa, Chaufatka rail over bridge, High Court flyover, Civil Lines Vivekananda Murti Chauraha, Public Service Commission Chauraha, Stanley Road.Similarly, the bus running from Govindpur will reach Prayagraj Chheoki station via MNNIT Rail Over Bridge, Allahabad University, Balsan Square, Rambagh Over Bridge, Bairhana, New Yamuna Bridge, Naini.
In fact, during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, two double-decker e-buses were sent here from the headquarters. These buses were to be operated during the Maha Kumbh, but due to the low height of many rail under bridges in Sangam city, the route of these buses could not be determined.
Due to this, both the e-buses have been parked in the workshop of Prayag Depot located in Rajapur for the last two months. On the other hand, after the arrival of these buses in Prayagraj, the UP Roadways administration surveyed those routes where there is no problem in operating these buses.
After surveying all the routes, two routes have now been decided. This includes Prayagraj Airport to Civil Lines Bus Station and the other from Govindpur to Prayagraj Chheoki Railway Station.
