State government increased the honorarium of sanskrit teachers
Sanskrit is an ancient and important language, which is considered an integral part of Indian culture and religious texts. In the last few decades, there has been a significant decline in the level of Sanskrit education and Sanskrit teachers were not getting proper respect and honorarium. In this connection, the state government has decided to increase the honorarium of Sanskrit teachers by 40%.
The government believes that this decision will promote Sanskrit education and encourage teachers, so that they will do their work with more hard work and dedication. This will help in establishing the importance of Sanskrit in the society.
On Thursday, in the Cabinet by Circulation, it was decided to increase the honorarium of Pre Madhyama (High School) teachers by 8 thousand and that of Uttar Madhyama (Intermediate) teachers by 10 thousand rupees. Till now Pre Madhyama teachers used to get 12 thousand, which has been increased to 20 thousand rupees per month.
The government has also decided to give a two-year extension to these teachers working on honorarium. Under this, the tenure of Sanskrit teachers has been extended from 2025 to 2027 i.e. for two years.
Status of sanskrit teachers
This decision of the government is giving a new direction to Sanskrit education. Increasing the honorarium of Sanskrit teachers will not only boost their morale but will also inspire students to learn Sanskrit.
Apart from this, this step can also prove to be important towards the overall improvement in the education sector of Uttar Pradesh. This decision is definitely a positive step considering the increasing shortage of teachers in the state and the need to improve the level of education.
In view of the shortage of teachers in Sanskrit schools, the state government had recruited teachers on honorarium basis in two phases. 518 teachers were recruited in the first phase and 850 in the second phase. In this way, a total of 1368 Sanskrit teachers are working on honorarium in the state.
After this decision of the government, these Sanskrit teachers will get the benefit of increased honorarium from April 2025. The contract period of these teachers was completed on 31 March 2025. In this way the contract period has also been extended for two years (2025-26 and 2026-27).
