The process of verification of beneficiary data under the old age pension scheme has started in Uttar Pradesh. The aim of this initiative is to ensure transparency in pension distribution and exclude ineligible persons from the scheme.

Verification process details

The Social Welfare Department has started verification of the data of 72 thousand beneficiaries in Basti district. In this process, the names of the applicants are being matched. If there is a difference in the name, the pension is stopped. After verification, the next installment of pension will be released.

The government is continuously working for the security, respect and better health of the elderly. In old age pension, deceased and ineligible pensioners are being removed from the list and in their place new eligible beneficiaries are being given the benefit of pension.

National Old Age Pension Scheme is being run by the Social Welfare Department to provide a better life to the elderly. Many concrete steps have been taken using technology to make this scheme transparent.

For this, the process of Aadhaar authentication of the beneficiaries is done so that timely payment of pension can be ensured to them.

The Aadhaar and mobile numbers of the beneficiaries are linked to the bank accounts. Through the unified portal, it has been ensured that a person can avail only one pension.

To receive pension, it has now been made mandatory for the beneficiaries to link their Aadhar card to their bank account. This will prevent fraud and increase transparency in pension distribution. If a beneficiary is unable to link Aadhar.

So he can contact the District Social Welfare Office and get help. To ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only the real and eligible beneficiaries, the work of verification of beneficiaries included in the list for pension payment in the new financial year 2025-26 has been started.

Instructions have been issued to all divisional commissioners and district magistrates on the government order of the Chief Secretary. Under which verification of 61 lakh beneficiaries of old age pension will be done by May 25.

Pensioners found dead or ineligible will be removed from the list and replaced by new eligible beneficiaries.

Door to door verification campaign

Under the Zero Poverty Campaign, the state government has identified 25 economically weaker families in each village. The Social Welfare Department has started the exercise to connect these families with the mainstream of society.

The elderly people of 60 years or more of the identified families will also be made to apply as per their eligibility during verification and they will be provided benefits. They will be given the first installment of pension from the month of June.

The department is providing quarterly pension of Rs. 1000 per month through DBT to the elderly people of 60 years or more under the BPL income limit. Under this, it is necessary to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

The annual income of the applicant in rural areas should be less than Rs 46,080 and in urban areas the annual income should be less than Rs 56,460. Verification is being done in rural areas through BDO and in urban areas through SDM or Executive Officer nominated by the District Magistrate.

Director, Social Welfare has instructed all Divisional Deputy Directors and Social Welfare Officers to check the quality of verification by doing 10 percent cross verification.

On the basis of which, the District Magistrate will take punitive action against the verification officer and employee who show living pensioners as dead. The departmental officers will ensure that the verification is timely and of good quality.

The Social Welfare Department has started a door-to-door verification campaign for the convenience of the elderly. So far, Aadhaar verification of 42 lakh elderly people has been completed.

Verification of the remaining beneficiaries is ongoing.After verification, the pension amount for 12 months will be sent simultaneously to the bank accounts of all eligible beneficiaries.
