Lucknow is no longer just a centre of history and culture, but it is also going to become the pride of the country in the field of defence manufacturing.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the country’s deadliest supersonic cruise missile ‘BrahMos’ at the Lucknow node of the Defense Industrial Corridor here on May 11. The unit has been set up on 80 hectares of land at a cost of Rs 300 crore.
This production will help in increasing India’s strategic power. Missiles like Brahmos, which fly almost three times faster than the speed of sound, will now be made in the country itself. This will not only strengthen national security, but India’s defence exports are also likely to increase revolutionary.
This plant will be North India’s first missile manufacturing center equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Built by BrahMos Aerospace, this plant has been established in joint partnership between India and Russia, in which India has a 50.5% stake and Russia has a 49.5% stake. This will also strengthen technical cooperation between the two countries.
Bringing this project from construction to production status in just three and a half years reflects the efficient planning of the state government. This project will provide economic and industrial impetus not only to Lucknow but to the entire Uttar Pradesh.
The unit will provide direct employment to around 500 highly trained engineers and technicians, while providing indirect employment opportunities to thousands of other local workers.
This will also open new avenues for skill development, technical education and employment in the region. This expansion of the Defense Corridor will start a new chain of manufacturing of defense equipment in the state.
