The revered Shri Mankameshwar temple in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has undergone a unique transformation this time around in observance of Sawan.Beginning on July 11, the first day of Sawan, the temple administration and priest Shridharanand Maharaj have instituted a new clothing code for devotees.
Devotees visiting the temple for darshan will no longer be permitted admission if they are dressed in contemporary attire, such as jeans, T-shirts, or shirt pants.
The temple grounds will only be open to those dressed simply and traditionally. This regulation was put into place specifically to uphold the religious customs of the month of Shravan.
The holiness of worship has been impacted by devotees’ clothing for a while, according to priest Shridharanand Ji Maharaj. Therefore, it is crucial that devotees dress obediently during a holy month like Sawan, when particular worship of Lord Shiva is performed.
He also clarified that:-
- Male devotees are required to wear dhotis during puja and Rudrabhishek.
- Women are expected to wear sarees or basic salwar suits.
- Shiny clothing, tight clothing, or shorts will not be permitted.
In order to preserve the temple’s sacred ambiance, this dress requirement will not only be enforced during the month of Shravan but also going forward.
Thousands of devotees travel from all around to the Mankameshwar temple for devotion and darshan as soon as the month of Shravan begins.
As with previous years, the temple committee has begun planning to simplify the process this year in anticipation of a large throng. Before visiting the temple, the priest has asked the followers to pay particular attention to their attire and adhere to the dress code.
