Railway line will laid in Varanasi

Divisional Commissioner S Rajlingam took stock of the multimodal terminal being built in Ramnagar, Varanasi. This project is being developed as a major hub for cargo transportation connecting Northeast and South India.

On Monday, Divisional Commissioner Shri S Rajalingam conducted a thorough inspection of the multimodal terminal under construction in the Ramnagar area of Varanasi.

During the inspection, he not only took stock of the condition of the boats parked at the terminal, but also saw the plan of the proposed Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for the drainage of water coming from the surrounding settlements and residential areas.

Apart from this, he also closely understood the technical and construction aspects of the multimedia model jetty. A modern ‘Freight Village’ will be developed on about 100 acres of land in this terminal complex, which will bring revolutionary changes in the field of freight and transportation.

Under the project, two important national highways NH-7 and NH-2 will be directly connected to this terminal by road, which will give unprecedented strength to the logistics network.

Additionally, a new 5.1 km long railway line will be laid from Jeevanathpur Railway Junction to Freight Village, which will connect the Delhi-Howrah Freight Corridor and this new hub directly to the rail network. This connectivity will prove to increase both the speed and capacity of freight transportation.

The Divisional Commissioner said that once the project is completed, a seamless corridor will be created for the transportation of goods from North-East India to South India.Malgadi Village will also be connected to the Multimodal Terminal at Ralhupur, facilitating movement of bulk cargo through water transport to Haldia via National Waterway-1.

This scheme will not only increase employment opportunities at the local level, but will also give Varanasi a new identity on the national and international trade map. In the coming years, this terminal will move towards becoming a major center of regional development.
