Keeping in mind the traffic congestion and the safety of pedestrians in Kanpur city, a new pedestrian bridge has recently been built in the Govindpuri area. This bridge will not only help in improving the traffic system of the city.
In fact, it has created a new identity by becoming the widest pedestrian bridge of the North Central Railway Division (Western Railway). We will discuss the process of its construction and the benefits it will provide to the city dwellers.
The widest pedestrian bridge of the division built in Govindpuri
This footbridge has the distinction of being the widest footbridge in the division. Its size and design have been specially designed in such a way that many people can walk comfortably on it at a time. Which is much more than other footbridges built earlier.
Due to its wide design, it will prove to be a convenient route for pedestrians in the city, who earlier used to become victims of accidents due to narrow bridges. One more step has been taken towards making Govindpuri Railway Station like Anand Vihar Terminal of Delhi.
The widest pedestrian bridge of Prayagraj division of North Central Railway has been constructed here. The 32 meter long pedestrian bridge has been made 12 meter wide keeping in mind the future plans. Its cost has come to Rs 6.5 crore.
Till now, only six meter wide foot bridges were being built in the railways, this is double the width. This will ensure that passengers will not face any problem in movement when there is a large crowd.
For the convenience of passengers, low-height stairs have been constructed on both sides of the footbridge at the station which is being developed as a terminal in future, which will be beneficial for the elderly.
There is more space outside the station as well, which has improved the parking space. It will be easier to create a holding area or a shelter during Maha Kumbh and special festivals. Granite has been installed on the platform inside the station, which has increased the beauty.
Passengers wait for the train sitting on sofas in the air-conditioned waiting room. The machines for cold water, reservation centre and general ticket counter have improved. Special lighting arrangements have been made in the station premises.
Being developed as a terminal
Modern techniques have been used in the construction of this bridge so that it remains safe and strong for a long time. High quality material has been used in the structure of the bridge. Mainly steel and concrete have been used in its construction.
This will ensure the strength and durability of the bridge. Its construction work has been done through joint efforts of the Municipal Corporation and the Railway Department.Which is an important step in the development of Kanpur.
Similarly, under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, work is going on to provide modern passenger facilities in the renovation of Central Station, Govindpuri, Panki Dham and Anwarganj railway stations. After completion of the first phase, more modern facilities will be provided to the passengers.
Govindpuri station is the main station of the southern region. Trains of Mumbai, Bundelkhand route pass through here, while many trains of Delhi-Howrah route are going directly to Prayagraj through this railway station instead of Central.
Therefore, a washing apron has also been built here.Arrangements have been made to fill water in 24 coach trains. In a big and busy city like Kanpur, it is very important to provide a safe path for pedestrians.
The construction of this new footbridge will provide a safe and uninterrupted passage for pedestrians in Govindpuri and surrounding areas. Earlier, pedestrians used to face risks while crossing the road during traffic.
Due to which the risk of accidents increased. Now with the construction of this bridge, people can cross the road safely without any fear. This will also reduce traffic congestion.
