Varanasi is an important centre from religious and cultural point of view. Now a significant change will be seen in its infrastructure as well. The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to build 16 new power substations in Varanasi. This step will not only improve the power supply in the city. But the city dwellers will also get the benefit of uninterrupted power supply.

Due to the increasing demand for electricity and increasing population pressure in Varanasi, the need to increase the number of sub-stations has been felt. At present, problems sometimes arise in the power supply in the city. Especially when the summer season arrives and there is a huge increase in power consumption. In such a situation, the construction of new power sub-stations will solve these problems and the power supply in the city can be strengthened. 16 new sub-stations will be opened by Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam. PM’s visit to Varanasi is proposed between 11 and 13 April. The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the sub-stations.

In Varanasi, substations will be built in Saketnagar, Dashashwamedh, Ganeshpur, PAC Bhullanpur, Dhelwariya, Circuit House, Jail Road, Sandha, Sonatalaab Panchkroshi, Karkhiyan, Sarnath, Basni, Aide Lamagi, Niwardih, Jalhupur Chandpur, Shankarpur and Mahavan. The construction of new substations will improve the power supply. This will have a direct impact on homes, shops and industries. Because they will now get more stable and uninterrupted power supply. The construction of power substations will give a new direction to the development of the city. It will not only solve the problem of electricity. But will also promote industrial and commercial activities in Varanasi.

At present, electricity is supplied from 100 substations in the district. They have different capacities. The maximum number is 85 substations of 33/11 kV. Apart from this, there are 10 substations of 132 kV and four substations of 220 kV as well as one substation of 400 kV capacity. At present, these supply electricity to 737078 consumers. 16 new substations will be constructed in the district. The place for these has been finalized. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation of these substations during his upcoming Varanasi visit. The construction of new substations will ensure smooth power supply. The Electricity Corporation has started preparations for laying the foundation stone of new substations.

An e-house in Saketnagar, GIS based sub-centre in Dashashwamedh, Ganeshpur will be equipped with modern facilities. With this, the way has been cleared for the remaining 13 sub-centres. Power supply will also improve in the rural and suburban areas of Varanasi. The new sub-centres will ensure stable supply of energy in these areas. Which will help in local development. The latest technology will be used in the new sub-centres. Which will make the power distribution system more smart and efficient. When the power supply is strong. It will also help in preventing incidents of theft. Because the sub-centres will have more monitoring and control.
