A new and modern initiative is being taken in the construction work of Kanpur Metro. In which ancillary building will be used. Which will help in keeping the underground metro stations cool. This step has been taken to make metro travel more comfortable and to provide relief to passengers in the summer season. The purpose of ancillary building technology is to keep the environment of metro stations cool and full of freshness. So that passengers do not have to face extreme heat.
Ancillary building will keep the underground station cool
Ancillary building is a technology. Which helps in keeping the environment cool while reducing energy consumption. In this technology, special types of insulation and ventilation systems are used. Which keep the temperature inside the stations under control. Adopting ancillary building keeps the metro stations cool. Due to which passengers get a comfortable experience in the summer season. The extension of passenger services from Motijheel to Kanpur Central under Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of Kanpur Metro Rail Project is likely to be launched soon. The construction of the high-rise building near all the 5 underground stations of the second phase has been completed.
This building is called the ancillary building of the underground metro station. This building will play an important role in maintaining cool temperature inside the stations as well as ensuring water management, power backup, smooth operation, security and hygiene. The ancillary buildings of all the five underground stations from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central are now fully ready for passenger services after the installation of all the equipment and systems. This technology is especially suitable for underground metro stations where there may be a lack of natural ventilation. The purpose of this technology is to improve the ventilation system so that the air inside remains fresh and the temperature does not rise too much.
Benefits of modern technology
This keeps the temperature of the station cool and comfortable. The pump room built on the first floor is necessary for the management of water supply, drainage and fire safety systems. Water is also supplied from here for the chiller plant and cooling tower. Similarly, the DG room built on the second floor provides backup to maintain continuous power supply in the underground metro station. In case of grid failure or power outage, electricity is available from here to run all the important systems of the underground metro station such as tunnel ventilation system, automatic fare collection system etc.
UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said that many important equipment and systems like cooling towers, chiller plants, pump rooms and DG rooms have been installed in the ancillary building of Kanpur metro stations. Chiller plants have been installed on the lowest floor of the building and cooling towers on the roof. These chiller plants absorb heat from the air inside the station and remove it through the cooling tower. In cities like Kanpur where the summer season is extremely harsh, cooling technology like ancillary building can prove to be important to maintain coolness in the metro station. Underground metro stations require air conditioning systems. But the option of ancillary buildings is proving to be an excellent solution to reduce the cost and energy consumption of these systems.
