Varanasi: The way for the rejuvenation of Cantt Roadways Bus Station is now completely clear. Under modern technology and PPP model, a state-of-the-art bus station will be built on the ground floor and a shopping mall and multiplex theatre will be built on the upper floors.
Now passengers will be able to catch buses as well as enjoy shopping and watching movies in the same premises. Bus services for many major cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur will be operated from here.
Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has handed over the responsibility of this project to a private company from Mumbai. The map of this project being prepared under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) has also been finalized.
According to roadways officials, the construction work will start very soon and is targeted to be completed in 2 years. However, it may take 5-6 years for the entire project to be fully developed.
What will the new bus station be like?
The new terminal will be developed on the lines of Lucknow’s Alambagh bus station. Workshops and other necessary structures will be constructed here in an area of about 10,561 square meters. This multi-layer complex will have all the facilities of entertainment, food, accommodation and shopping under one roof.

This project will not only modernise the city’s infrastructure but will also create new employment opportunities. Cantt Bus Station will now emerge as a complete transit experience rather than just the beginning of a journey.
