The Uttar Pradesh government has taken important steps to ensure road safety and compliance with rules through the Transport Department.
Recently, news has come that major changes are going to be made in the challan system in UP.The aim of these changes is to strictly punish drivers who violate traffic rules and reduce road accidents.
Big changes regarding challan in UP
The Transport Department has proposed to increase the challan amount. Earlier, the challan amount for many offences like breaking signals, driving in the wrong direction, not wearing seat belts etc. were less in amount, but now their amount will be increased.
This step is being taken to send a strong message to those who violate the rules. NIC is testing POS machines so that they can be used in a better way in the Transport Department.Additional Transport Commissioner IT Sunita Verma said that all enforcement officers, DTO, ARTO, RTO will get this facility.
Transport department officials say that the driver will also get the facility to pay the fine through debit or credit card on the challan generated through POS machine. In future, it will also be connected to Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
Now vehicle owners will not have to go to the office or public convenience centers to pay the fine. The challan process will be paperless through POS machines, while there will be no need to pay the challan as the process is online.
Also, the department will get regular information about every challan in real time. Vehicle owners can deposit the challan amount even while sitting at home by looking at the serial number of the challan generated by the machine.
Increase in invoice amount
The Transport Department is giving POS machines to all the more than 270 RTO enforcement, ARTO enforcement and passenger tax officers across the state. Through this, the vehicle owner will be able to deposit the challan on the spot.
The department has signed an agreement with the State Bank of India in this regard. The vehicle owner will not have to pay cash, rather the money will be deposited from the bank account. This will not only help in collecting challans but will also curb corruption.
There are thousands of vehicles that break traffic rules, have been challaned for breaking the rules, but they are running freely. Now this can be controlled.POS or Point of Sale machines are being provided to transport officers so that money can be deposited immediately after challaning vehicles at intersections and other routes.
Strict action will now be taken against drivers who violate traffic rules. For example, strict penalties will be imposed on those who travel without helmet or seat belt.
Apart from this, strict penalties and license suspension can also be imposed on those who drive under the influence of alcohol. The purpose of these strict rules is to make people aware about road safety and reduce accidents.
