Uttar Pradesh: The situation in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar in Chandauli is so bad that the road ahead is not visible in the scorching afternoon sun. Dust is spread all over the area, people are having trouble breathing and are falling ill.
The condition of air pollution in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar and surrounding areas is continuously getting worse. The dust in the atmosphere has dissolved to such an extent that it looks like a blanket of fog.
For the last two weeks, people are facing problems like difficulty in breathing, burning sensation in the eyes, headache and cough. Local doctors have called it dangerous for health and warned that if concrete steps are not taken soon, the situation can become more serious.
The number of sick people is constantly increasing in various areas of the city. This situation is proving to be even more dangerous especially for the elderly, children and asthma patients.
The administration is saying that efforts are being made to tackle air pollution, but no effect is visible on the ground. So far neither any effective plan has come out nor any strict action has been taken.
The construction of a six and four lane road from Padav to Pachpedwa has further aggravated the problem. The dust and soil flying from the construction site has made the air poisonous.
The people of the city have to constantly grapple with this problem. The soil deposited on the roadside starts flying with the slightest gust of wind, due to which the entire area gets covered with dust.
Water is not being sprinkled in the construction work going on on Nagar and Chandasi Road, due to which the situation is getting worse. Shweta Pathak, a resident of Kailashpuri Colony, said that there is so much dust that people are avoiding walking. Walking on the road has become a challenge.
The surprising thing is that the Public Works Department officials are present in the city, but still no action is being taken.Local residents allege that the officials did not fulfill their responsibility of removing the mud accumulated on the roads during the construction work. The general public is bearing the brunt of this negligence.
People are falling sick due to the dust and pedestrians are facing problems. Citizens demand that during the construction work, water should be sprinkled regularly and the roads should be cleaned so that relief can be obtained from this serious situation.
