Uttar Pradesh residents who use electricity have some vital news. There may be a little increase in electricity costs if the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited’s (UPPCL) plan is accepted.Electricity prices may now reach Rs 8 per unit in rural areas and Rs 9 per unit in urban areas.

There will be a large increase in both fixed charges and power rates. Up to Rs 190 may be required of city consumers who previously paid Rs 110 per kilowatt as a fixed price. Concurrently, there is a proposal to raise the fixed rate in villages from Rs 90 to Rs 150 per kilowatt.

Customers may have to pay 12 to 13 rupees per unit for electricity after this adjustment, according to estimates. In their petition to the commission for 2025–2026, UPPCL estimates that they will lose almost Rs 19,644 crore at the current rates. To reduce this, electricity rates may increase by an average of 30%.

Domestic customers in rural and urban areas will be most impacted. For them, an increase of 35% to 45% is suggested. In the new proposal, power rates will be consolidated into three slabs instead of the current four slabs. As a result, some customers may see an increase in electricity costs of almost 45%.

The fee might be raised from Rs 5.50 to Rs 8 per unit for rural customers who utilize more beyond 300 units. On the other hand, a rise from Rs 6.50 to Rs 9 per unit is suggested for urban consumers.

Shops using up to 4 kilowatts of electricity could raise their cost from Rs 7.50 to Rs 8.40 per unit to Rs 9.50. However, power can cost up to Rs 10 per unit for people with loads greater than 4 kilowatts.

Currently, power up to 100 units is available to those below the poverty line (BPL) for Rs 3 per unit. There are currently plans to raise the fixed charge from Rs 50 to Rs 75 and this rate to Rs 4.

A proposal has been made to raise the fixed rate per kilowatt from Rs 330-450 to Rs 450-545. Additionally, there is a plan to raise the fixed charge from Rs 350 to Rs 450 and the electricity costs for private institutions from Rs 9 to Rs 10 per unit.
