The Uttar Pradesh government is now adopting a very serious attitude towards pollution control. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday gave clear instructions that now an office of the Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) will be opened in every district of the state, and regional offices will also be established at every divisional level.

In view of the increasing environmental threats in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took several important decisions in the review meeting of the UP Pollution Control Board.At present, only 28 regional offices are working in 75 districts of the state, which will now be reorganized on the basis of 18 administrative divisions.

Also, the board will have a separate unit in every district. More than one regional office will also be opened in places where industrial activities are more.Giving a new direction to the Pollution Board, CM Yogi has asked to form separate cells for solid and liquid waste management.

Apart from this, instructions have been given to create specialized units for the management of hazardous waste, e-waste and biomedical waste. He suggested that a research and development cell should be created for redressal of public grievances related to these and for environmental research work.

Board will be strengthened by technology, transparency will come

Emphasizing on the use of modern technologies, the CM said that a special unit based on Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) should be created.

Its use will help in increasing transparency, efficiency and accountability in the work of the board.Publications and outreach programmes regarding environmental awareness will also be conducted through this unit.

The Chief Minister directed to make the process of No Objection Certificate (NOC) like CTO/CTE related to industries simple and time bound.

While currently the process takes 120 days for red, orange and green categories respectively, now the target has been set to reduce it to 40, 25 and 10 days. For this, emphasis has been laid on developing a strong system.

The vacant posts will be filled soon, young experts will come from IIT

CM Yogi talked about rapid recruitment to the posts that have been vacant in the board for a long time. He suggested that promising youth from premier technical institutes like IITs should be included in the board with attractive salary packages.

This will boost the technical efficiency of the board.The Chief Minister said that there has been no change in the fee structure for No Objection and Consent Certificate for the last 16 years.

He directed that the board should give a deep thought to this and make the fee rates as realistic and up-to-date as possible.Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government seems to be adopting a solid and comprehensive strategy on the environmental management front.
