UP Weather Update: Heavy Rain and Lightning Expected in These 40+ Districts This Week

After days of rising temperatures, relief is finally in sight for Uttar Pradesh residents.

The monsoon is back in action, and according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts across the state are in for a wet and stormy week ahead.

If you’re in UP, it might be time to keep those umbrellas handy—and stay indoors when the sky begins to rumble.

Light Showers to Begin

On July 23, parts of western UP may experience light to moderate showers, says Atul Kumar Singh, a senior IMD scientist.

However, the real monsoon momentum is expected to build from July 24, picking up full pace by July 25 with heavy rainfall likely in both western and eastern parts of the state.

So, while the week starts off on a milder note, it’s midweek when the skies are expected to open up.

Districts Set to Receive Rainfall on July 23

A light-to-moderate drizzle could grace the skies over:

  • Shamli
  • Muzaffarnagar
  • Bijnor
  • Moradabad
  • Baghpat
  • Meerut
  • Amroha
  • Rampur
  • Bareilly
  • Lalitpur
  • Jalaun
  • Mahoba
  • Hamirpur
  • Banda
  • Chitrakoot

If you’re in any of these districts, expect some relief from the heat—but don’t forget to check the weather before heading out.

Brace for Heavy Rainfall on July 24 and 25

The monsoon is expected to intensify significantly on July 24 and 25, with heavy showers forecasted in a wider belt, including:

  • Hardoi
  • Sitapur
  • Bahraich
  • Shrawasti
  • Lakhimpur Kheri
  • Ghazipur
  • Jaunpur
  • Pratapgarh
  • Kanpur
  • Agra
  • Mathura
  • Azamgarh
  • Sultanpur
  • Basti
  • Gorakhpur
  • Mau
  • Ballia
  • Ambedkar Nagar
  • Gonda
  • Ayodhya

This spell of rain is expected to be much stronger, so travel plans and outdoor activities should be adjusted accordingly.

Lightning Alerts Issued

Alongside heavy rain, IMD has also warned of frequent lightning strikes in several districts.

The administration has urged residents to take the alert seriously:
Avoid venturing outdoors during thunderstorms, and seek shelter in safe spaces.

With thunder, lightning, and gusty winds likely, it’s best to stay prepared and cautious.

Wet Week Ahead for UP

The monsoon’s return is both a welcome change and a reason for caution.

While farmers and nature lovers may rejoice, it’s crucial for everyone to stay updated on local weather alerts and avoid unnecessary exposure to stormy conditions.
