Triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, the state’s weather pattern has shifted, promising heavy rainfall and thunderstorms starting Friday.
The regional meteorological department has issued alerts for 39 districts, warning residents of potential lightning strikes and powerful storms.

Meanwhile, an even broader area spanning 39 districts—from Lucknow and Kanpur to Gorakhpur and Jhansi—is expected to witness intense thunder, lightning, and sudden storms.
This spell of heavy precipitation will initially focus on southeastern UP but is projected to gradually expand westward, affecting Bundelkhand, the Terai belt, and central parts of the state over the next 3-4 days.

“Such systems rejuvenate the southwest monsoon currents, particularly impacting the southeastern districts of Uttar Pradesh first,” he explains.
Singh also emphasizes that this phase will last several days, with peak rainfall expected on Saturday, before moving to western UP.
