Yogi Declares UP as India’s Growth DriverUttar Pradesh is entering a new economic era today. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state has acquired an important place on the economic map of the country.
At one time, UP’s economy was at the seventh or eighth position in the country, but now it has come to the second position with Rs 27.5 lakh crore. The Chief Minister’s goal is to make Uttar Pradesh the largest economy of the country by the year 2030.
According to the report released by the Reserve Bank of India in August 2023, Uttar Pradesh’s contribution in attracting investment in the country was 16.2%, making it the first state in the whole of India.
UP has been included among the ‘front runner’ states in the recent report of NITI Aayog, which indicates that the state is moving rapidly towards economic reforms.
UP has also strengthened its position in terms of tax collection. According to RBI data, Uttar Pradesh ranks second in the country in tax revenue.
The state has also made commendable improvement in the credit-deposit ratio i.e. CD ratio – while it was 46% in 2016-17, it has increased to 61% in 2024.The state government aims to bring it to 67 to 70% soon.Uttar Pradesh contributes 9.2% to the country’s GDP.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Planning Department, former Niti Aayog vice-chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar said UP has 56% young population, diverse agro-climatic zones, abundance of water resources and several geographical features that make it capable of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
The state government has already started schemes like “One District One Product” (ODOP) and “One District One GI”. Now the government is going ahead and preparing for the “One District One Dish” scheme, which can promote local culture and employment.
When Yogi Adityanath took oath as Chief Minister in March 2017, the economy of UP was lagging behind on many fronts. But now, seven years later, the state has made unprecedented economic progress.
The chief minister’s clear message is “Now Uttar Pradesh will not just be a part of the country, but will become the hub of its progress.”
